Does family farming reduce rural unemployment?

Abstract This article investigates the causal relationship between family farming and rural labour markets. To this end, we combine farm accountancy data public market statistics at district level (NUTS-3) for years 2008–2013. While cross-sectional regressions reveal a strong robust negative correlation share of unemployment rate in region, fixed-effects panel suggest is not causal. Instead, find evidence that cultural differences work ethic spuriously connect with unemployment. Thus, supporting to fight an effective strategy Germany.
